Reimagining Education: A Collaboration Between Human and Machine, 2025

Anatola Araba’s Reimagining Education: A Collaboration Between Human and Machine presents a video manifesto created in partnership with Sophia the Robot — the world’s first humanoid robot citizen — imagining education seven generations into the future. In the video, Sophia envisions classrooms becoming rainforests, collaboration happening across continents in real time. Her speculation continues: history unfolds through avatar-mediated debates with ancient change-makers and lunchrooms become spaces where no student sits alone. Students simulate justice movements, program drone swarms to restore ecosystems, and co-create with AI mentors who tailor quests to their evolving interests . Each day of school is dynamic, joyful. As bell hooks reminds us, “classrooms are radical spaces of possibility” — a principle that suggests education’s future is more a living, breathing network of growth and play than a static and hierarchical experience. Araba translates Sophia’s speculative voice into vivid moving images using Runway’s generative AI platform, creating a hybrid artwork that reframes what learning could become when human imagination and artificial intelligence work in synergy.
