Jayson Mittman’s expansive practice encompasses video installation, animation, creative computation, and interactive technologies to create physical and digital sculptures. Mittman’s installation presents a new, theatrically staged alter-realm of cloned selves, their own body presented and represented as artifact and apparition. A striking scene and set unfolds. On a pedestal, the Artist sits in a robe labeled Artist, speaking to another, slightly smaller Artist, also in a robe labeled Artist. The two discuss themselves and, it would seem, their troubles. Below, and in the middle distance, a figure kneels, penitent, in the same translucent resin as the Artist. We get a sense of the artist’s life,  the different stations he must travel towards for the promise of a sublime payout. Looming above him, a massive paparazzo in an uncured, opaque white resin, attempts to frame and capture the artist’s image. A perverse spiritual transaction unfolds, as the penitent (the captured) needs the captor;  the captor needs his subject.
