Still a Long Dream, 2025

Sining Zhu’s Still a Long Dream unfolds as an installation in perpetual transformation of social geography. Drawing from the architectural maps of Dynasty Plaza in Los Angeles Chinatown — one of the last traditional Asian shopping centers now shadowed by gentrification — the work traces a landscape suspended between endurance and erasure. Concrete slabs bear imprints of discarded merchandise, their blurred outlines preserving the afterimage of vanished lives. Built structures, wooden boards, lines, images, and debris converge into  a fragile archaeology of the present, where foundations and ruins become indistinguishable. These impressions act as fossils of a living economy, reverberating in the delicate balance of safety and danger, stasis and flux, permanence and ephemerality. At The Reef, the work continues to extend and mutate within the architecture of the site, echoing cycles of redevelopment, remains, and change — hovering like a long dream  that has yet to end.
