Days Adrift, 2024 – 2025

Meixi Liu’s Days Adrift emphasizes process as meditation. Through experimental engagement with ink, charcoal powder, and xuan paper, the work begins without a fixed outcome. Each mark becomes a reaction, each stain a negotiation between control and surrender. Liu is drawn to the curious instability  of paper. She explores the way it absorbs, resists, and reshapes intention, creating paintings that trace inner landscapes and fragmented sensations. The time required to prepare materials becomes part of the work’s temporal dimension — while the xuan paper absorbs and transforms each mark, creating images that are always becoming, never fully resolved yet deeply present. The work carries the visual notation of breath and reflection at the fragile threshold between form and formlessness, creating what the artist describes as a blurring of Eastern sensibilities with contemporary abstraction.
