ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK and FRAGMENTED NEWS, 2025

Working across sculpture, installation, performance, printmaking, and expanded graphics, Michele Lorusso’s practice moves between critical deconstruction and poetic exploration, treating language (acts of naming, writing, speaking) as material to be fragmented, manipulated, and redefined. Both  ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK and FRAGMENTED NEWS explore language as an active, performative device — one that structures reality while revealing its limits, contradictions, and possibilities for escape. Together, the floor and wall pieces create a grammar.  ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK, a welcome mat, engraves a warning that transforms the threshold into a border crossing: a site of liability. One’s entry implicitly accepts the stated danger. FRAGMENTED NEWS disassembles the English alphabet into collaged letters that resist legibility. Through material choices like linen, newspaper and coconut fiber, Lorusso emphasizes the physical dimension of words, the ways signifier and signified gain weight and texture when inscribed, collaged, engraved into matter.
