Lily; Silent Film, 2025

Ti Lee’s Lily explores perspective as both material fact and perceptual possibility, working with mulberry paper on canvas to create surfaces that shift. Abstract shapes emerge from and recede into the layered paper, hover between planes, neither fully flat nor fully volumetric, refusing to settle into either purely two-dimensional or three-dimensional form. Through the tactility of paper and the materiality of canvas, Lee investigates different ways of seeing, framing, and reframing, asking viewers to consider perspective as both optical phenomenon and embodied experience. In Silent Film, Lee blurs artificial and natural contexts through materiality of surfaces. Distortions of curves in reflection transform smooth surfaced glass. Glass is a material commonly used in modern architecture for transparency and reflection. The image of organic form and urban order converge in this encounter. Lee’s oracle explores the space between what is seen and what can be known.
